Danville, VA near Berglund Mazda in Salem, VA

Customers from all sorts of cities and areas around Salem, VA come to our dealership looking for a new or used car. One of these cities happens to be Danville, VA. With a population of around 43,000 people, Danville is an independent city that shares borders with Pittsylvania County, VA and Caswell County, NC and is known as the last capital of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. The city got its name from the Dan River, so named because the man who led the 1728 expedition that discovered the land, William Byrd, "felt he had wandered 'from Dan to Beersheba'." Originally named "Wynne's Falls" after the first settler, the name of the village was officially changed to Danville by act of the Virginia Legislature on November 23, 1793. The city played an important role during the Civil War, was the site of a series of violent episodes of the Civil Rights Movement, was the location of one of the most famous wrecks in American rail history on September 27, 1903, and was the long-time home of Dan River Industries, one of the largest textile mills in the world until its closing back in 2006.
